The 2021 silver Australian kangaroo 1-oz coin is a firm favorite among traders and investors. A sixth-generation portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clarke appears on the obverse (front) side, while the reverse shows Stuard Devlin’s instantly recognizable red kangaroo design. While gold Kangaroo coins change the design on the reverse each year, the 2021 issue of this silver coin will continue to show Devlin’s classic image. Both sides of the coin incorporate extremely fine linework for both aesthetic and anti-counterfeiting purposes. We don’t often see a coin as detailed as the Australian kangaroo.
Each coin is 99.99% pure silver or 0.9999 (“four nines”) fineness. It’s rarer than most silver coins of 0.999 fineness. The unusually high silver content has made this coin a prized addition to collections and portfolios. The silver Australian kangaroo is the first coin issued by the Perth Mint, Australia’s oldest mint, to boast such purity.
About the silver Australian kangaroo
This series has a high mintage with no cap, creating liquid market conditions for those seeking to trade. Each coin has a face value of $1 Australian (AUD), while the market value is significantly less than that of the gold counterpart. Silver Kangaroo coins are an excellent, accessible entry point to the market for that reason.
The Perth Mint has minted silver Australian Kangaroos since 2015. Each coin comes with a micro-laser-engraved letter A on the reverse side, invisible to the naked eye. The engraving serves as a robust anti-counterfeiting measure, adding a layer of security to the purchase and sale of these coins.
