It is the same image featured on the US quarter where the late US president is depicted in a left-facing portrait with all his distinct features. The design was created by John Flanagan based on a 1786 sculpture of Washington.

The reverse field of the 2014 5 oz ATB Great Smoky Mountains Silver Coin features the Great Smokey mountains in the backdrop. It it set behind a log cabin with an eagle flying high in the sky. The inscriptions here include “Great Smoky Mountains,” “Tennessee,” “2014,” and “E Pluribus Unum.”
