This significant heraldic symbol was used by the monarchs of the House of Tudor to establish their lineage, with Henry Tudor laying claim to the throne after the Wars of the Roses in 1485. Coin Highlights:
The Tudor Dragon is inspired by the historic Red Dragon of Wales, a symbol with deep roots in Welsh culture. This emblem has been connected to Wales since at least the 5th century AD and is featured in the Historia Brittonum, a 9th-century historical text that tells the tale of the red dragon (representing the Welsh) battling the white dragon (representing the Saxons).
During the Welsh Revolt of 1400-1415, Owain Glyndŵr used the red dragon on a white field as his banner, further cementing its status as a national symbol of Wales. The Tudors later adopted this emblem to legitimize their claim to the English throne.
