Initially, the series only offered a 1 oz silver coin for the first ten years. In 1991, fractional-ounce options were added, with the 1/2 oz silver coin being the largest of these smaller sizes. On the obverse of the 2024 1/2 oz Silver Libertad Coins, you’ll find Mexico’s national coat of arms. This seal has evolved over the past two centuries but is rooted in an Aztec symbol from 1524. The design shows a golden eagle devouring a snake while perched on a prickly pear cactus.

The reverse side of the 2024 Mexican Silver Libertad showcases the famous statue of Winged Victory. This statue stands atop the Mexican Independence Victory Column in Mexico City, and in the background, you can see the peaks of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl mountains.

When the Silver Libertad series launched in 1982, the 1 oz coin was the sole option until 1991, when fractional sizes were introduced. These include the 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz coins. These fractional coins have been produced almost every year since, with only a few exceptions, such as the absence of a 2012 1/20 oz coin.

The 2024 1/2 oz Mexican Silver Libertad Coin is available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and comes in an individual plastic flip. Though a popular choice among collectors, the 1/2 oz Silver Libertad’s mintage has fluctuated over the years. The early 1990s saw some of the highest mintages, with the 1992 coin exceeding 100,000 pieces. In recent years, mintages have been lower, adding to the coin’s allure.
