From 1838 to 1907, the US Mint produced the Liberty Head Eagle Coin, a $10 gold piece, which became the longest-running design for the Eagle denomination. Christian Gobrecht, the 3rd Chief Engraver of the US Mint, created this well-known design in 1838. It appeared on the $10, $5, and $2.50 US Eagle coins, with the $10 Liberty Eagle having the longest production run. Today, 1907 $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coins are available in certified condition from BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
In 1907, the US Mint was shifting from Christian Gobrecht’s Liberty Head design to the Indian Head design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Both designs were struck in 1907, with the final Liberty Head coins minted in Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco. The Philadelphia coins had no mint mark, while Denver and San Francisco coins had D and S mint marks, respectively.
Each 1907 $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coin in this listing is graded Mint State 63. This grade means the coin has mint luster with minor imperfections, including some small contact marks and a few larger ones. Some of these marks may appear in key areas of the coin, and there may be scattered hairlines or small patches of imperfections.
On the obverse of the 1907 Liberty Gold Eagles is a portrait of Lady Liberty. Designed by Christian Gobrecht, the left-facing Liberty wears a coronet crown. Her portrait is surrounded by 13 stars, representing the original colonies, with the year of issue below.
The reverse of the 1907 $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coin displays the heraldic eagle. The bald eagle is shown with the US national shield, clutching arrows and an olive branch. As a Type II coin, the design includes a banner above the eagle with the national motto.
