The maple leaf design on the coin is rooted in Canadian history, dating back to the 18th century. This distinct design, with its eleven points and detailed veins, became an official national symbol with the adoption of Canada’s flag in 1965. The leaf used in the Gold Maple Leaf series emphasizes the beauty and symmetry of Canada’s iconic maple tree.
These 1986 1/2 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins are securely packaged in protective plastic. This 1986 edition was the first year the series included a 1/2 oz coin. Originally introduced as a 1 oz coin in 1979, the series expanded in 1982 to include smaller denominations.
