Product Details

The Morgan Silver Dollar debuted in 1878 as the United States Mint’s first silver dollar design in five years, replacing the Seated Liberty Dollar series. Designed by Assistant Engraver George T. Morgan, this silver dollar became one of the most iconic coins in U.S. history. Produced annually from 1878 to 1904 and again in 1921, the Morgan Dollar remains a favorite among collectors. Right now, 1885-O Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available in perfect condition at BullionMax.

The 1885-O Morgan Silver Dollar was struck at the New Orleans Mint, with a mintage of 9.185 million coins. That year, the Philadelphia Mint led production with over 17.7 million coins, followed by New Orleans, San Francisco with 1.497 million coins, and the Carson City Mint, which produced just 238,000 coins.

The obverse of the 1885-O Morgan Dollar Coin showcases George T. Morgan’s portrait of Lady Liberty. She is depicted in left-profile relief, wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with a laurel wreath and a coronet crown. The design is surrounded by 13 stars to symbolize the original colonies.

On the reverse of the 1885-O Morgan Silver Dollar, you’ll find Morgan’s heraldic eagle design. This front-facing bald eagle holds arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other, symbolizing both strength and peace. The eagle is surrounded by inscriptions and the “O” mint mark, denoting its production at the New Orleans Mint.
