Goldbacks were introduced with the Utah Goldback Series, marking the first practical form of spendable gold in the U.S. in nearly a century. Each Goldback is made with 24-karat gold and highlights unique designs celebrating the history and culture of its issuing state. The Florida Goldback Series is the newest addition, featuring new denominations like the 1/2, 2, and 100 Goldbacks. Right now, 1/2 Florida Goldback Gold Notes in 100-pack bundles are available from BullionMax.
Note Highlights:
Each 1/2 Florida Goldback Gold Note Pack includes 100 individual notes, bundled together with a black strap. These notes are made using 24-karat gold sealed between durable polymer layers, ensuring longevity and flexibility. The 1/2 Florida Goldback is one of the new denominations introduced in the Florida Series, which also features the 2 and 100 Goldback notes.
The design on the 1/2 Florida Goldback Gold Note reflects the state’s early history. It showcases a young woman dressed in Spanish Conquistador armor, kneeling beside the legendary Fountain of Youth. She holds water in her hand, representing themes of exploration and the pursuit of vitality.
Juan Ponce de León is often linked to the myth of the Fountain of Youth, following his landing on Florida’s coast in 1513. The impact of Ponce de León’s arrival on Florida’s indigenous populations was profound and devastating. The Calusa, Tequesta, Timucua, and other native peoples who had inhabited the region for thousands of years faced immediate threats from European diseases, for which they had no immunity. The Spanish presence also initiated a period of violent conflict, as native groups resisted colonial encroachment. Indeed, Ponce de León himself would later die from an arrow wound received during a hostile encounter with indigenous warriors during his second expedition to Florida in 1521.
