Between 2016 and 2021, The Royal Mint introduced the Queen’s Beast Collection, a series that honored the longstanding tradition of British heraldry and monarchy. Featuring 10 different designs, each image in the collection represents a legendary beast tied to royal lineage, with historical roots dating back to the reign of King Henry VIII. Today, BullionMax offers the 1 oz The Royal Mint Queen’s Beast Completer Gold Bar as part of this celebrated tribute.
Bar Highlights:
The obverse of the 1 oz Queen’s Beast Completer Gold Bar presents all ten heraldic beasts in a circular design created by Jody Clark. In the center is the 1952 portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, originally designed by Mary Gillick. Surrounding her are the Lion of England, Griffin of Edward III, Falcon of the Plantagenets, Black Bull of Clarence, Yale of Beaufort, White Lion of Mortimer, White Greyhound of Richmond, Red Dragon of Wales, Unicorn of Scotland, and White Horse of Hanover.
On the reverse side of the The Royal Mint Queen’s Beast Completer Gold Bar, you’ll see The Royal Mint’s official crest set against a detailed guilloche background. This side also includes the bar’s weight, metal content, and purity, clearly marked for reference.
The concept of the Queen’s Beasts dates back to King Henry VIII’s time. In the 1530s, during renovations at Hampton Court Palace, he ordered the creation of large plaster statues of heraldic beasts. These figures lined the bridge leading to the palace as a display of royal strength and heritage. Unlike the temporary versions made for Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation, Henry’s were designed to remain in place as a lasting symbol of authority.
Each 1 oz Queen’s Beast Completer Gold Bar is securely packaged in a sealed blistercard from The Royal Mint. This bar highlights all 10 heraldic beasts from the coin series and marks the gold version as the most limited release, with only 5,000 bars available. It is part of a trio that also includes 1 oz and 10 oz silver bars.
