The Australian Nugget Series transitioned to the Australian Kangaroo in 1990, but Perth Mint continued to use the engraving “Australian Nugget” on the coins until 2008. Despite the name changes, the Kangaroo design theme has been consistent since 1990.

Throughout this series’ history, the effigy of the Queen has been updated, with many of the coins likely featuring either Raphael Maklouf’s third-generation effigy or Ian Rank-Broadley’s fourth-generation effigy.
