The United States Mint first released Proof American Gold Eagles in 1986, initially offering just a 1 oz coin. In the following years, the Mint expanded the series with more sizes, adding the 1/2 oz Proof Gold Eagle in 1987 and the 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz coins in 1988.

These 1/4 oz Proof American Gold Eagles come in their original capsules, but do not include the US Mint display box or Certificate of Authenticity. Since this is a random year listing, the date on your coin could vary from 1988 to 2008 or from 2010 onward, as there were no Proof Gold Eagles produced in 2009.
