In the early 1900s, the United States Mint produced gold coins for Cuba in several denominations. These included 1, 2, 4, 5, 10, and 20 Peso coins made of gold, along with silver and cupro-nickel versions in other denominations. Right now, you can purchase 1 Peso Cuba Gold Coins of various types and years online at BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
Gold Peso coins were only issued for a short time in Cuba. Before the 20th century, Cuban currency was primarily based on Spanish Pesos. During the Cuban War of Independence in the 1890s, efforts were made to introduce Cuba’s own coinage. In 1915 and 1916, the United States Mint struck these Cuban Gold Pesos, with designs by Charles E. Barber, the Chief Engraver at the time.
Each 1 Peso Cuba Gold Coin available here ships in protective plastic. These coins are made of 90% gold and 10% copper, a typical composition for circulating gold coins of that era. The coins are offered in varied conditions and from random years. Both proof and circulation strikes may be included. We cannot guarantee a specific type or year in advance.
The obverse of the coin shows Cuba’s national coat of arms. The design includes a shield with a sunrise over the sea at the top, with a palm tree and mountains on one side and diagonal stripes on the other.
The reverse side displays a right-facing portrait of Jose Marti. A noted Cuban poet, journalist, and political thinker, Marti remains an important figure in Cuban history and independence.
