Christian Gobrecht, the 3rd Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, designed the Liberty Head Eagle Coin in 1838. This $10 gold coin became one of the longest-running designs in the US Mint’s history, featuring prominently on Eagles with $10, $5, and $2.50 denominations. The $10 Liberty Eagle saw the longest production period, spanning from 1838 to 1907. Now, certified 1895 $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coins are available from BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
Each 1895 $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coin comes in Mint State 63 condition and is housed in a protective plastic slab. These coins have a strong mint luster but may show small contact marks and some heavier marks in the focal areas. A few hairlines or patches of hairlines may also be present on the coin.
In 1895, the $10 Liberty Gold Eagle had a relatively low production year, especially compared to other years in the 1890s. The majority of these coins were produced at the Philadelphia Mint, with a final mintage of over 567,000 coins. Other locations like New Orleans and San Francisco also produced smaller numbers.
The obverse side of the 1895 $10 Liberty Eagle Coin features Lady Liberty, a design by Gobrecht introduced in 1838. Liberty is shown in left-profile with a coronet crown, surrounded by stars and the date of issue at the bottom.
On the reverse is Gobrecht’s depiction of a heraldic eagle. This powerful image shows an eagle with spread wings supporting the US national shield. The eagle also holds the arrows of war and an olive branch of peace. As a Type II coin, it includes the national motto on a banner above the eagle.
