Product Details

In 1838, Christian Gobrecht, the 3rd Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, crafted the Liberty Head design for the $10 gold coin. This iconic design, which appeared on $10, $5, and $2.50 Eagles, holds the record for the longest production run in the US Eagle denomination. The $10 Liberty Eagle was minted from 1838 to 1907, making it a key piece in American numismatic history. Currently, 1899 $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coins are available from BullionMax in certified condition.

The obverse of the 1899 $10 Liberty Eagle Coin features a portrait of Lady Liberty, designed by Gobrecht in 1838. Liberty is shown in left-profile relief with a coronet crown, surrounded by a ring of 13 stars and the date at the bottom.

The reverse side of the 1899 Liberty Gold Eagle Coin displays another Gobrecht design known as the heraldic eagle. The eagle faces forward, holding the US national shield, with arrows of war and an olive branch in its talons. Type II coins include an additional banner above the eagle with the national motto.

In 1899, the US Mint produced a significant number of $10 Liberty Gold Eagles, with the Philadelphia Mint striking 1.262 million coins, the San Francisco Mint producing 841,000, and the New Orleans Mint contributing 37,047 coins.

These 1899 $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coins are available in Mint State 63 condition, housed in protective plastic slabs. Coins in this grade may show slight wear, small contact marks, and occasional heavier marks or hairlines.
