In 1907, the United States Mint made a significant change to the design of the $20 Gold Double Eagle. After more than 50 years with the Liberty Head design by James B. Longacre, the coin was set to feature a new image from Augustus Saint-Gaudens later in the year. However, the Denver Mint still produced some of the final Liberty Gold Double Eagles early in 1907. Right now, 1907-D Pre-33 $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle Coins are available in certified condition from BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
Each 1907-D Pre-33 $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle Coin in this listing has a PCGS certification of Mint State 64. This grade means the coin is in excellent condition with above-average luster and light, scattered marks or hairlines. While there may be some visible imperfections in the fields, they are minor and don’t significantly affect the coin’s appearance.
This 1907 issue was the last time the Liberty Gold Double Eagle design was struck. Coins from this year came from the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mints, with the 1907-D Liberty Double Eagle representing only the second release of this design from Denver.
On the obverse of the 1907-D $20 Liberty Double Eagle Coin is a depiction of Lady Liberty. This classic design by James B. Longacre shows Liberty in left-profile with a coronet crown, surrounded by 13 stars. The date “1907” is inscribed below.
The reverse of the 1907-D Pre-33 Liberty Gold Double Eagle features a majestic bald eagle, with its wings spread wide and a shield on its chest. The eagle is also holding arrows and an olive branch, symbolizing both war and peace. As a Type III coin, the reverse includes the national motto, “IN GOD WE TRUST,” above the eagle, and the denomination “TWENTY DOLLARS” at the bottom.
