Product Details

The $20 Double Eagle coin was first introduced by the United States Mint in 1850 as part of the US Eagle Series. As the largest denomination in the series, it was produced with only two different design combinations during its history. The final design, created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, debuted in 1907 and became known as the Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle. Today, 1925 Pre-33 $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle Coins in certified condition are available at BullionMax.

The artistry of Augustus Saint-Gaudens on this coin is remarkable, especially in Lady Liberty’s flowing Grecian gown, which appears to ripple with her steps. His original design was created in high relief, resulting in detailed, intricate visuals but posing challenges during minting. Coins required multiple strikes to achieve the full relief, and the design’s high points caused wear on the dies. This led to the relief being adjusted for easier production.

Each 1925 Pre-33 $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle Coin in this listing is certified in Mint State 64 condition. Coins at this grade show average luster for their age and strike, with several small contact marks or groups of marks. It is also possible to see one or two moderate marks or minor patches of hairlines. In 1925, Philadelphia produced 2.831 million of these coins, while additional coins were struck in Denver and San Francisco.

The obverse of the 1925 $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle features Lady Liberty in a stunning front-facing relief. She holds a torch in her right hand, symbolizing guidance, and an olive branch in her left, representing peace. The design includes rays of sunlight, a circle of 48 stars, and the U.S. Capitol in the background.

On the reverse side of 1925 Pre-33 Saint Gaudens Gold Double Eagle Coins, the soaring bald eagle is depicted in left-profile relief. This image, also by Saint-Gaudens, shows the eagle gliding through the sky with the rising sun and radiant sunlight in the background.
