Product Details

The Chinese Mint introduced its Gold Panda bullion coin series in 1982, initially offering four weight options for collectors and investors. In 1983, a fifth weight was added to expand the choices in this popular series. Known for its annual design changes featuring the Giant Panda, the Gold Panda program has become iconic and set a trend that other mints would later follow. Now, 1986 1/2 oz Chinese Gold Panda Coins are available online at BullionMax.

Coin Highlights:

  • Arrives sealed in a plastic pouch!
  • 5th release of Chinese Gold Pandas!
  • Contains 1/2 Troy oz of .999 pure gold.
  • Bears a face value of 50 Yuan backed by the government of China.
  • The obverse features the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests.
  • On the reverse is a depiction of a Giant Panda amidst bamboo shoots.

Each 1986 1/2 oz Chinese Gold Panda Coin is packaged in a sealed plastic pouch for protection. The 1986 release marked the fifth year of the Gold Panda series, issued at a time when the coins were measured in Troy ounces. Today, the 1/2 oz size has been replaced by the 15 Gram Gold Panda as part of the series’ evolution.

Giant Pandas, often called “Panda Bears,” are an iconic animal unique to the bamboo forests of central China. These beloved creatures are members of the bear family but have a distinct diet of bamboo, unlike their mostly carnivorous relatives.

The obverse of the 1986 Chinese Gold Panda Coins features a beautiful image of the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. This structure, central to the Temple of Heaven Complex in Beijing, is a significant Taoist religious site in China.

On the reverse side of the 1986 1/2 oz Gold Panda Coin is a depiction of a solitary Giant Panda walking among bamboo. This design for the year uses different finishes to highlight the contrasting areas of the panda’s black and white fur, giving depth and realism to the image.
