The obverse of the 1990-P 1/4 oz Proof Gold Eagle features a design created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Originally crafted in 1907 for the $20 Double Eagle, this image shows Liberty striding forward with a torch raised high in one hand and an olive branch in the other. The background features sunrays, the U.S. Capitol, and a ring of stars surrounding her figure.

On the reverse of 1990-P Proof Gold Eagles, you’ll find a design by Miley Busiek. This original image for the series shows a bald eagle flying toward its nest, where a female eagle and hatchlings wait below. This depiction symbolizes strength, unity, and the importance of family.

The Proof Gold Eagles were released in phases by the United States Mint. The 1 oz coin was introduced first in 1986, followed by the 1/2 oz coin in 1987. The series was completed in 1988 with the addition of the 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz coins. These fractional-ounce coins have face values that correspond to their weight, with the 1/4 oz coin assigned a $10 (USD) denomination.

Each 1990-P 1/4 oz Proof American Gold Eagle comes in a protective plastic capsule, housed in a US Mint box with an outer shipper. A Certificate of Authenticity is also included. These coins were struck at the Philadelphia Mint and bear the “P” mint mark.
