Product Details

First introduced in 1982, the Chinese Gold Panda Series was among the first to offer a new design each year on a bullion coin. Since its start, the series has featured different images of the Giant Panda almost every year, with 2002 being the only exception. Today, BullionMax offers the 1999 1/2 oz Chinese Gold Panda Coins with Small Date marks.

Coin Highlights:

  • Coins arrive inside a sealed plastic pouch!
  • Small Date numerals!
  • 18th year of release for the Gold Panda Series!
  • Contains 1/2 Troy oz of .999 pure gold.
  • Issued a face value of 50 Yuan by the People’s Republic of China.
  • On the obverse is the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests.
  • The reverse captures a Giant Panda on a rock ledge with bamboo in the background.

The obverse side of the 1999 1/2 oz Gold Panda Coin presents the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests, a main feature within Beijing’s Temple of Heaven Complex. This image shows the large staircase leading up to the temple’s entrance, highlighting an important piece of Chinese architectural tradition.

On the reverse, the 1999 Chinese Gold Panda shows a Giant Panda standing on a rock ledge. The panda appears curious as it looks over the edge, with bamboo plants filling the background scene.

Giant pandas are native to mountain bamboo forests in central China, mostly found in six isolated mountain ranges in Sichuan, Shaanxi, and Gansu provinces. In the past, pandas also lived in lowland areas, but urban growth has pushed them into higher elevations between 5,000 and 13,000 feet, where the cool, misty climate helps bamboo thrive.

Each 1999 1/2 oz Chinese Gold Panda Coin comes sealed inside a plastic pouch. These coins are known as Small Date examples, meaning the date numbers on the coins are smaller and closer together compared to other issues from the same year.
