From 1979 to 2023, Queen Elizabeth II was the only monarch to appear on the obverse of Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins. Over this period, her image evolved through three different portraits. The final portrait, created in 2003 by Susanna Blunt, depicted the Queen at the age of 79.

This design, created in 1979 by Walter Ott, is used across all versions of the Gold Maple Leaf series, as well as on the Silver, Platinum, and Palladium Maple Leafs.
