Chinese Gold Panda Coins have been a regular release from the Chinese Mint since 1982. Initially, the series included coins in weights of 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz, with the 1/20 oz coin added in 1983. Each year, the mint introduces a new reverse design featuring Giant Pandas. Right now, you can find 2010 1 oz Chinese Gold Panda Coins available at BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
The obverse of the 2010 1 oz Gold Panda Coin includes a design of the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. This building is the main structure within the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, a well-known Taoist site. All Gold Panda Coins feature this same obverse image every year.
On the reverse, the 2010 coin shows a pair of Giant Pandas relaxing next to each other. Bamboo fills the scene, with a wall of stalks behind them and smaller bamboo shoots surrounding them. The design highlights the peaceful nature of these animals in their natural setting.
Giant pandas tend to live alone, coming together only briefly during mating season. Instead of relying on sound or complex interaction, they use scent marking to communicate. These markings help pandas claim space and share important information, like mating readiness.
Each 2010 1 oz Chinese Gold Panda Coin is packaged in a sealed plastic pouch. The 2010 release was the 29th issue in the series and one of the last to be made using Troy ounce weights. From 1982 through 2015, the Chinese Mint used Troy ounces, but starting in 2016, the coins transitioned to metric weights, with this size changing to 30 grams.
