Each 2011 1 oz Mexican Gold Libertad Coin is housed in a protective plastic flip. Although the Gold Libertad series started in 1981, it wasn’t until 2002 that it became an annual release. In recent years, the mintage numbers have been much smaller, with just 3,000 1 oz Gold Libertads minted in 2011, compared to the 596,000 coins struck in the inaugural year.

The Libertad series began with the Gold Libertad in 1981 and later expanded to include various other versions such as Proof Gold, Brilliant Uncirculated Silver, Proof Silver, and Antique Silver coins. Despite these additions, all Mexican Libertads share the same classic design elements.

The obverse of the 2011 Mexican Gold Libertad features Mexico’s national coat of arms. This design is rooted in an Aztec symbol, where an eagle devours a snake while perched on a prickly pear cactus. The modern coat of arms displayed on the coin is surrounded by 10 historic versions of the same emblem.
