The US Mint launched the First Spouse Gold Coin series in 2007 to honor the women who served as First Lady of the United States. Each 1/2 oz gold coin in the series features a design reflecting the contributions and interests of the First Lady depicted. The 2011-W 1/2 oz US Mint First Spouse Julia Grant Gold Coin is now available online at BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
Julia Grant played an active role in Washington D.C. politics during her time as First Lady. She was a supportive and involved partner to her husband, Ulysses S. Grant, both during his time as a Union General in the Civil War and throughout his presidency as the 18th President of the United States.
Each 2011-W 1/2 oz US Mint First Spouse Julia Grant Gold Coin is in perfect condition. As a Mint State 70 coin, it has no visible imperfections and retains its full original mint luster. This release was the 19th in the overall First Spouse series.
The obverse of the 2011-W US Mint First Spouse Julia Grant Gold Coin features a portrait of Julia Grant. She was known for her warmth and approachability, which helped her build strong relationships in Washington D.C. Her personality played a key role in bridging social divides between Northern and Southern elites during the Reconstruction Era.
On the reverse, the design captures a moment from Julia Grant’s youth. She is depicted riding horseback alongside Ulysses S. Grant on her family’s plantation in White Haven, Missouri. The couple first met in 1844 and later married in 1848.
