In choosing the images for the official gold bullion coin of the nation, the United States Mint made a deliberate choice. The obverse features Lady Liberty, a symbol of freedom and democracy, while the reverse showcases the American bald eagle, a defender of freedom and a symbol of majesty. You can now own the 2015 ¼ oz American Gold Eagle coin, available at BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
Every 2015 ¼ oz American Gold Eagle coin offered by BullionMax comes securely packaged in a protective plastic flip. These coins boast the highest mintage in the program since the 1999 release.
In 1986, Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ iconic 1907 design of Lady Liberty was chosen to represent the nation on the American Gold Eagle coin. Saint-Gaudens, a distinguished artist and sculptor, was personally selected by President Theodore Roosevelt to redesign the nation’s gold and silver currency.
Saint-Gaudens’ design, initially featured on the $20 Gold Double Eagle from 1907 to 1933, was the first coin redesigned during the government and US Mint initiative that spanned from 1905 to 1921. His depiction of Lady Liberty is widely recognized as the greatest design in American coinage history.
On the obverse, you’ll find the image of Lady Liberty walking forward with her torch raised as a guiding light. The city of Washington DC is faintly visible at her feet, and the sun’s rays peek out from behind her figure.
The reverse of the coin portrays a family of bald eagles. In this image, a male eagle returns to the nest where a female is guarding the hatchlings. Sculptor Miley Busiek created this image in 1986, and it is exclusively featured on the American Gold Eagle.
