Product Details

Historically, the ½ oz American Gold Eagle coin boasts one of the lowest mintage figures in bullion releases. Since the introduction of the Gold Eagle Series in 1986, the ½ oz and ¼ oz coins have taken turns with the lowest mintage and high demand. Now, you can get your 2018 ½ oz American Gold Eagle Coins online from BullionMax.

Coin Highlights:

  • Comes in an individual plastic flip or mint tubes of 40 coins!
  • Celebrating the 33rd year of the American Gold Eagle coins!
  • Limited mintage of 32,000 coins!
  • Contains ½ Troy oz of actual gold content.
  • Face value of $25 (USD) is fully backed by the US government.
  • Obverse features Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ iconic image of Liberty.
  • Reverse showcases a family of bald eagles created by Miley Busiek.

The inaugural release in 1986 saw the highest ever mintage figure for the ½ oz Gold Eagle, with 599,566 coins sold by the US Mint. Demand dropped sharply the following year to just 131,255 coins. In the years to come, the ½ oz gold bullion coin only crossed the 100,000 coin threshold in mintage three times.

American Gold Eagle ½ oz coins wouldn’t cross 100,000 again until 1998 when 169,029 coins were produced. The second-highest all-time mintage figure for the ½ coins came in 1999 when 263,013 were struck. The third time the coins crossed 100,000 was in 2009 during the Great Recession when 110,000 coins were struck and sold.

All 2018 ½ oz American Gold Eagle coins listed here are available with plastic flips for delivery. The 2018 release experienced a modest drop from the previous year, with the mintage falling by 5,000 coins compared to 2017.

The obverse of all American Gold Eagle Coins includes the iconic image of Liberty striding forth from the nation’s capital. Visible at her feet is the US Capitol Building, and her free figure wears no crown, with flowing hair in the wind. She holds her torch high in her right hand with an olive branch of peace in her left.

On the reverse of 2018 ½ oz American Gold Eagle Coins, you’ll find Miley Busiek’s contribution to the series—a captivating image of a family of bald eagles in their nest created exclusively for the American Gold Eagle series in 1986.
