U.S. Mint’s 2021 1/4 oz gold American eagle, a favorite among our fractional gold coins. These gold eagles are completely untouched, still sealed in their capsules straight from the U.S. Mint. Along with your coin, you'll also receive the coin's fancy presentation case, a certificate of authenticity and a classy overbox.

Fair warning: because fractional gold eagle coins are more affordable than their 1 oz big brother, they tend to sell fast. If you want to complete the 2021 chapter of your U.S. Mint coin collection with both Type 1 and Type 2 designs, we strongly encourage you to order your 1/4 oz American gold eagle right now!

Each coin is made of 22-karat “crown gold” alloy (91.67% gold, 5.33% copper and 3.0% silver), far more durable than pure gold. That translates into 0.9167 pure gold, with an actual gold weight of 1/4 troy oz. They also have a $10 face value although they’re obviously not intended for circulation.

Note this 2021 proof American eagle features the new reverse design. Artists Jennie Norris and Renata Gordon’s intimate profile of a fierce and noble bald eagle is so incredibly detailed and realistic it virtually jumps off the coin. It feels like you’re eye-to-eye with the bird of prey itself, and it’s hard not to feel a surge of patriotic pride when you hold one of these 1/4 oz American gold eagles in your hand. Inscriptions include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” along with the weight, purity, and denomination.

The 2021 Type 2 American eagle retains the obverse design we know and love, Augustus Saint Gaudens’s Lady Liberty striding forward, bearing a torch and olive branch. Behind her, the U.S. capitol building appears on the horizon, and the rays of the rising sun spread across the horizon at Liberty’s back. Even though you recognize this design, it isn’t quite the same. The U.S. Mint went all the way back to Saint-Gaudens’ original bronze casts from 1907 and used modern technologies to more faithfully replicate the original design. A very careful observation will reveal modifications to the capitol building, stars, torch and other details. (See the bottom of this page for a detailed list of design changes from the U.S. Mint.) You’ll note the words “LIBERTY” and the 2021 year of minting on the obverse as well.

About the gold American eagle series

In 1986, the U.S. Mint started issuing American gold coins for the first time in over 50 years. They immediately had a hit on their hands. Each year since, collectors across America and around the world have eagerly snapped up millions of gold eagles. Fractional coins in weights of 1/2,1/4 and 1/10 oz are more affordable and therefore accessible to a wider range of collectors. The U.S. Mint wanted to make sure that just about everyone who wants their very own gold American eagle can afford one, and they’ve done a great job!

Highlights of the 2021 1/4 oz gold American eagle coin (Type 2 design):

  • Minted in 0.9167 fine gold at West Point, actual gold weight of 1/4 troy oz
  • Ships in sealed plastic capsule, snug in its presentation case with certificate of authenticity and a decorative overbox
  • Newly-designed reverse and remastered obverse designs
  • Produced at the legendary U.S. Mint, with a face value of $10 guaranteed by the US government
  • A popular coin from a wildly successful series, highly in-demand and accessibly priced
  • One of four weights available in the 2021 gold American eagle proof coin series

If you have taken possession of a damaged or tampered package, please save all packaging and contact call us at (800) 729-3202 during normal business hours of 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. (PT) Monday – Friday within 48 hours for further instructions. What happens if my order is lost in transit?
We see very few delivery issues with our carriers, but sometimes delays do occur. In those situations, we appreciate your patience to wait a little longer for your package (at least 7 business days) before contacting us. Should the package not arrive, an investigation of the shipment is required before any order is reshipped or refunded.
