The U.S. Mint produces the American Gold Eagle each year in three versions: bullion, proof, and burnished. While the bullion and proof versions have been available since 1986, the burnished version made its debut in 2006 as a collectible option with a distinct finish. Each 2022-W 1 oz Burnished American Gold Eagle Coin is packaged by the U.S. Mint in a plastic capsule and comes with a display box and themed outer shipper. A Certificate of Authenticity is included with each coin.

Burnished Gold Eagles were first introduced in 2006 in 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz versions. This lineup remained in place until 2008, but the economic challenges of the Great Recession led to a break in production during 2009 and 2010. When the series returned in 2011, it was only available as a 1 oz coin. These coins have a soft matte finish created by tumbling the blanks with a polishing material before striking.

The obverse of the 2022-W Burnished Gold Eagle displays Lady Liberty as designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907. This image shows Liberty walking forward with a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left, with flowing hair and radiant sun rays behind her.

On the reverse side, you’ll find a modern bald eagle design. Created by Jennie Norris and first seen in 2021, this image shows the eagle’s head in left-profile with fine detail in the feathers and eye, offering a strong, focused look.
