Initially, the series featured 1 oz, 1/2 oz, and 1/4 oz coins, with 1/10 oz and 1/20 oz coins joining in 1991. The 1/20 oz coin is the smallest in this series. Gold Libertad coins were first released in 1981 and shared a design initially used for the 50 Peso Gold Centenario coin, which was issued to celebrate the centennial of Mexico’s independence from Spain. Since 2000, the Gold Libertad has showcased updated versions of the national seal and Winged Victory.

All 2024 1/20 oz Mexican Gold Libertad Coins come in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and are packaged in a plastic flip for protection. Since its debut in 1991, the 1/20 oz Gold Libertad has had fluctuating demand. The highest mintage was 65,225 coins in 1992, while the lowest was just 650 coins in 2013. Notably, there were no fractional-ounce coins released in 2012.

The obverse of the 2024 Mexican Gold Libertads features the national coat of arms of Mexico. This modern seal, inspired by the Codex Mendoza from 1524, depicts an eagle eating a snake while perched on a prickly pear cactus, an iconic symbol rooted in Aztec culture.

The reverse side of the 2024 1/20 oz Gold Libertad Coin showcases the statue of Winged Victory. This angelic figure represents Mexican Independence and is depicted standing atop the Mexican Independence Victory Column in Mexico City, with the volcanic peaks of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl in the background.
