The US Mint resumed gold and silver coin production in the 1980s, and the American Gold Eagle quickly became a favorite. Coin Highlights:
American Gold Eagles made their debut in 1986, offering a variety of options for both investors and collectors. The BU Series introduced 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz gold coins. The Proof Series started with 1 oz gold in 1986, expanded to 1/2 oz gold in 1987, and then included 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz gold coins in 1988.
In 2006, the US Mint introduced the Burnished Series, initially featuring fractional ounces. However, it discontinued these smaller options after a two-year hiatus in 2011. Over time, Certified Gold Eagles from all three series have gained popularity among both investors and collectors.
The obverse of the 2024 1 oz Gold Eagle Coins proudly displays Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ rendition of Lady Liberty. This design, created in 1907, portrays Liberty in a full-frontal view.
