These American Gold Eagles were first introduced by the United States Mint in 1986, offering 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz gold coins. They arrived as the fourth modern gold bullion coin, following the Gold Krugerrand, Gold Maple Leaf, and Gold Panda.
On the obverse side of the 2024 American Gold Eagle, you’ll discover the historic image of Liberty, originally designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. This front-facing bust captures Liberty in full length, holding a torch and an olive branch. Created in 1907, it was initially used on the $20 Gold Double Eagle.
The reverse side of the 2024 1 oz Gold Eagles features a new portrayal of the American bald eagle, introduced in 2021. This design by Jennie Norris showcases the eagle’s head in left-profile relief as it gazes into the distance.
