The initial Gold Libertads came out in 1981, with three BU gold coins for investors. However, the BU Gold Libertad was not minted again until 1991 and only became an annual release from the Mexican Mint starting in 2002. Proof Gold Libertads made their debut in 1983 with just 88 of the 1 oz gold coins produced.

Proof Gold Libertads were not minted again until 1989, with a 1/2 oz gold coin and a limited mintage of 704 coins. The Mexican Mint resumed production of Proof Gold Libertads in 2004, offering 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz gold coins, each with very limited mintages.

The obverse design of the 2024 1 oz Proof Gold Libertad Coin features the national coat of arms of Mexico. The modern national seal is at the center, surrounded by a ring showcasing 10 historical versions of the national coat of arms, including an Aztec emblem first used in 1524.

On the reverse of the 2024 Proof Mexican Gold Libertads, you will see the figure of Winged Victory. This symbol dates back to the Mexican Revolution, depicted here standing on the Mexican Independence Victory Column. Winged Victory holds a laurel wreath in her right hand, while her left hand holds broken chains at her side.
