During its early years, the Perth Mint played a crucial role in refining and minting gold from the prolific Western Australian goldfields, producing millions of British sovereigns and half-sovereigns for use throughout the British Empire. In total, the Perth Mint would end up producing more than 106 million Sovereigns.

King Charles III is depicted on the obverse side of the 2024 Proof Gold Perth Mint 125th Anniversary Sovereign Coins. He is shown in a left-profile relief, without a crown. This design was created by Dan Thorne for the Perth Mint.

The reverse side features a modern take on St. George on horseback. This design shows a naked rider wielding a sword as he fights a dragon, reinterpreting the historic image of St. George.
