The Liberty Gold Eagle was first introduced by the United States Mint in 1838. Designed by Christian Gobrecht, who served as the 3rd Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, this iconic image remained a staple on American gold coins for 70 years. Today, Pre-33 $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coins in About Uncirculated condition are available online at BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
The Liberty Gold Eagle Coin was minted from 1838 to 1907, making it one of the longest-running designs in US Mint history. The only major change during its production was the addition of the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” on the reverse in 1866. This design stability highlights the coin’s importance during a significant period in American history.
Each Pre-33 $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coin comes encased in a protective plastic slab and is certified as About Uncirculated 53 (AU53). This grade indicates coins that have very light wear on the highest points, retaining medium to near-full luster. Please be aware that we do not guarantee specific years of issue or design types. If you purchase more than one, you may receive coins with matching or differing years and designs.
The obverse of the Liberty Gold Eagle features a portrait of Lady Liberty, a design that remained consistent from 1838 through 1907. Lady Liberty is shown in left-profile with a coronet crown inscribed with the word “LIBERTY” and surrounded by 13 stars representing the original colonies.
On the reverse of Pre-33 $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coins, the heraldic eagle design stands prominently. The bald eagle is shown in front-facing relief, holding the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace, with a shield representing the nation on its chest. Type I coins do not feature the national motto, while Type II coins, introduced in late 1866, include a banner with the phrase “IN GOD WE TRUST.”
