The original House of Tudor beasts were carved from wood, painted, and gilded. They were created by Richard Ridgeway, the King’s Master Carpenter. Each beast stood on a column and held a vane (a type of weather vane) displaying the royal arms.

The obverse of the 2024 British Platinum Tudor Beasts The Tudor Dragon Coin showcases King Charles III’s first portrait. Created by Martin Jennings, this left-profile relief shows the King without a crown, reflecting the tradition of altering the portrait’s orientation with each new monarch.
On the reverse, the coin features the Red Dragon of Wales. The Tudor dynasty incorporated this dragon into their seals and banners, linking their lineage back to Owen Tudor of Wales and the English royal family.
