The Seated Liberty Half Dollar, produced from 1836 to 1891, adorned various denominations. The 1858 Seated Liberty Half Dollar, part of a $400,000 cargo on the S.S. Republic, symbolizes the US Mint’s resurgence post-Civil War.

On the obverse of the 1858-O Silver Seated Liberty Half Dollar, Liberty sits on a rock, holding a staff with a Phrygian cap. This image was created in 1836 by Christian Gobrecht and is one of the first widely-used depictions of Liberty across various denominations of American currency.

The reverse of the 1858 Seated Liberty Half Dollar displays a heraldic eagle with the US national shield, arrows of war, and an olive branch. An O mint mark is beneath the eagle’s talons.

These 1858-O Seated Liberty Silver Half Dollars are certified by NGC, confirming their origin from the S.S. Republic wreck discovered in 2003, with 51,000 coins recovered.
