Only a few years in the history of the Morgan Silver Dollar saw coins struck by four different branch mints. During the first 15 years of production, the Philadelphia, San Francisco, New Orleans, and Carson City mints regularly produced these coins. Since Carson City only minted the coins from 1878 to 1885 and from 1889 to 1893, only 12 of the first 15 years, and 12 years overall, featured coins struck by all four mints.

Each of these 1879-S Morgan Silver Dollar Coins comes with a Mint State 65 certification. Coins graded MS65 have an above-average luster with light, scattered contact marks and hairlines, but no major distracting marks in the primary focal points. These coins offer a very pleasing eye appeal.

On the obverse side of the 1879-S Morgan Dollar Coin, you’ll find George T. Morgan’s depiction of Lady Liberty. This left-profile relief shows Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with a laurel wreath and a coronet crown. Thirteen stars are arranged along the bottom half of the coin’s field.

The reverse side of the 1879-S Morgan Silver Dollar features another design by Morgan. This side shows the American bald eagle in front-facing relief with its wings spread wide. The eagle holds the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons but is depicted without the US national shield.
