Product Details

The Morgan Silver Dollar, designed by George T. Morgan, made its debut from the United States Mint in 1878 and was issued annually until 1904, with one final year of production in 1921. These coins were minted during several significant historical periods in the U.S., including the Reconstruction Era, the Gilded Age, and the early 20th century. Now, 1885 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available at BullionMax.

Each 1885 Morgan Silver Dollar comes in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition and is shipped in protective plastic flips. For bulk purchases, multiples of 20 coins are packaged in tubes. The Morgan Silver Dollar is composed of 90% silver and 10% copper, making it a valuable and enduring piece of U.S. coinage history.

The 1885 edition had one of the largest mintages in the Morgan Dollar series, with coins struck at various U.S. Mint branches, including Philadelphia, New Orleans, Carson City, and San Francisco. The Philadelphia Mint led the production with over 17.78 million coins, nearly doubling the output of other mint locations.

On the obverse side of the 1885 Morgan Silver Dollar, you’ll find Lady Liberty in a detailed left-profile portrait. It is believed that Anna Willes Williams served as the inspiration for Liberty’s face. She is shown wearing a Phrygian cap, a laurel wreath, and a coronet crown, with 13 stars surrounding her in the background.

The reverse of the 1885 Morgan Dollar showcases a heraldic eagle in a distinctive pose. Unlike other designs, Morgan’s eagle does not feature a national shield. Instead, the eagle spreads its wings wide, holding the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons, symbolizing both strength and harmony.
