The total mintage of Morgan Silver Dollars in 1887 reached nearly 33 million coins, with the Philadelphia Mint producing the largest share at 20.29 million. Other mint facilities that year included New Orleans, striking 11.55 million coins, and San Francisco, with a smaller total of 1.77 million coins. Carson City Mint did not produce any Morgan Dollars in 1887.

On the obverse of the 1887 Morgan Dollar Coin, you’ll find a left-profile portrait of Lady Liberty, inspired by Anna Willes Williams. She wears a Phrygian cap, a laurel wreath, and a coronet, surrounded by 13 stars representing the original colonies.

The reverse of the 1887 Morgan Silver Dollar features a unique heraldic eagle designed by Morgan. Unlike other eagles that feature a national shield, this eagle is depicted front-facing with wings spread wide, clutching an olive branch and arrows in its talons.
