Product Details

The Morgan Silver Dollar is one of the most beloved designs in American coinage history. Originally introduced in 1878 by George T. Morgan, a new Assistant Engraver at the US Mint, this design was used on coins until 1904, with a final issue in 1921. Right now, certified 1888 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available from BullionMax.

In 1888, Morgan Dollars were produced in large quantities by the Philadelphia Mint, which struck 19.183 million coins. Additional coins were also produced by the New Orleans Mint, with 12.15 million coins, and a smaller number from the San Francisco Mint, with 657,000 coins for this year.

All of these 1888 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are certified in Mint State 64 condition. Coins in this grade offer a pleasing luster and an attractive appearance. There may be a few light marks across the surface, with minor imperfections in focal areas. Some coins may also display slight, scattered hairlines or a small patch of hairlines.

The obverse side of the 1888 Morgan Dollar displays a portrait of Lady Liberty. She is shown in a left-facing profile wearing a Phrygian cap, a coronet crown, and a laurel wreath. Thirteen stars encircle her to represent the original American Colonies, and the year of issue, 1888, is inscribed below.

On the reverse of the 1888 Morgan Silver Dollar, you’ll find the heraldic eagle design. This American bald eagle holds both the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons, symbolizing the nation’s strength and readiness for peace.
