Product Details

The Morgan Silver Dollar, introduced by the United States Mint in 1878 as a replacement for the Seated Liberty Dollar, is a classic piece of American numismatic history. Originally unveiled to fill the gap left by the suspension of the Seated Liberty Dollar in 1873, the Morgan Dollar quickly became a staple in US coinage. Now, you can add a piece of this history to your collection with the certified 1888-O Morgan Silver Dollars available for purchase online from BullionMax.

The 1880s was a period of change in  American history. The presidential election of 1888 took place between incumbent President Grover Cleveland, a Democrat, and Republican nominee Benjamin Harrison. Despite winning the popular vote, Cleveland lost in the electoral college, and Harrison became the 23rd President of the United States.

The obverse of the 1888 Morgan Silver Dollars displays a portrait of Lady Liberty, created by George T. Morgan in 1878. Liberty is depicted in left-profile relief, adorned with a Phrygian cap, coronet crown, and a laurel wreath.

On the reverse side of the 1888-O Morgan Dollars is a depiction of the heraldic eagle, also created by Morgan. This visual showcases the eagle in front-facing relief, clutching the arrows of war in one talon and the olive branch of peace in the other.
