The New Orleans Mint has a storied history with the Morgan Silver Dollar. The series was produced annually from 1878 to 1904, and after a 17-year pause in silver dollar minting, the Morgan Dollar was briefly revived in 1921. The New Orleans Mint struck coins each year from 1879 to 1904, reopening after the Civil War and Reconstruction in 1879 but closing in 1909. It missed the inaugural release of the Morgan Dollar in 1878 and the final issue in 1921.

The obverse of the 1902-O Morgan Dollar features the image of Lady Liberty, designed by George T. Morgan. Liberty is depicted in left-profile relief, wearing a Phrygian cap, a coronet crown, and a laurel wreath. Surrounding her are 13 stars and the date.

On the reverse side of the 1902-O Morgan Silver Dollar, you’ll find the heraldic eagle. This design shows the American bald eagle in a front-facing view with its wings spread wide, clutching arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other, symbolizing war and peace.
