In 2001, the release of 1 oz Proof Silver Eagles marked a pivotal moment as production shifted from the Philadelphia Mint to the West Point Mint. Currently, you can acquire the 2001-W 1 oz Proof American Silver Eagle Coins in perfect condition, available for purchase online at BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
Each 2001-W 1 oz Proof American Silver Eagle listed here is a PF70 specimen. Coins in this condition are considered perfect specimens, exhibiting full, original mint luster with no detractions. UCAM, which stands for ultra-cameo proof, indicates that the coins have strong, frosted designs and deeply-mirrored, clear fields.
The 2001 release of the Proof Silver Eagle marked two important moments in the program’s history. Notably, it was the first year of annual production for Proof Silver Eagles at West Point, and it was only the second Proof Silver Eagle ever struck at West Point, following the 1995-W Proof Silver Eagle 10th-anniversary issue. The mintage in 2001 also marked the highest production of the coins since the 1987 release of 904,732 coins.
On the obverse side, the 2001-W Proof American Silver Eagle Coins feature the captivating Walking Liberty. Designed in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman, this full-length portrait of Liberty in left-profile relief depicts her walking towards the sun on the horizon, with an outstretched right hand carrying branches of oak and laurel.
The reverse design on the 2001-W 1 oz Proof Silver Eagle showcase the heraldic eagle. Modernized in 1986 for this series by John Mercanti, the national seal includes a formidable bald eagle behind the US national shield. With a triangular cluster of 13 stars overhead, the eagle clutches the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons.
