Product Details

The popularity of the American Silver Eagle in the 21st century was unprecedented. Even post-Y2K, the demand for precious metals soared. The 2001 American Silver Eagle set a high mintage record, signaling the beginning of a remarkable era. And now, available at BullionMax, the 2001-W Proof American Silver Eagle coin awaits you.

Coin Highlights:

  • Comes in a special commemorative box with a Certificate of Authenticity.
  • A total proof mintage of 746,398!
  • Marks the 15th Anniversary of the American Silver Eagle!
  • Contains 1 Troy oz of .999 pure silver.
  • Carries a face value of $1 (USD) backed by the US government.
  • The obverse displays the iconic Walking Liberty.
  • The reverse depicts the majestic heraldic eagle.
  • Includes the “W” mint mark from the West Point Mint.

Each 2001-W 1 oz Proof American Silver Eagle Coin will arrive in a special commemorative box along with a Certificate of Authenticity. This release marks the 15th year of issue in the overall series.

Despite the fading Y2K concerns, the demand for these coins persisted, maintaining a consistent level compared to the preceding year. While there was a slight dip in overall Silver Eagle production, the numbers between bullion and proof coins balanced out. Interestingly, although there were 238,000 fewer bullion coins produced in 2001, an additional 146,398 Proof American Silver Eagles were struck compared to the prior year. In essence, the combined production of 2000 and 2001 surpassed the output from the four-year period of 1994 to 1997, which marked the lowest production phase in Silver Eagle’s history.

Adorning the obverse of every American Silver Eagle is Adolph A. Weinman’s masterpiece, the Walking Liberty. This iconic depiction of Liberty, draped in the American flag and carrying oak branches while walking into the sunlight, remains a timeless symbol.

Flipping to the reverse, the 2001-W Proof American Silver Eagle Coin showcases the modern heraldic eagle, a design crafted by the then-US Mint Chief Engraver, John Mercanti.
