Product Details

The second-to-last animal in the 12-year cycle of the Lunar Calendar is the dog. Perth Mint’s Lunar Series coin collections have been a favorite since Lunar Series I began in 1996. The silver coins in this series didn’t start until 1999, three years after the first gold coins. Now, you can get the 2006 1/2 oz Australian Silver Lunar Dog Coins at BullionMax.

Coin Highlights:

  • Arrives in acrylic capsules!
  • 8th date in the Lunar Series I silver collection!
  • Final mintage of 39,361 coins!
  • Contains 1/2 Troy oz of .999 pure silver.
  • Bears a face value of $.50 (AUD) backed by the federal government of Australia.
  • The obverse features Queen Elizabeth II.
  • On the reverse is a depiction of a German shepherd.

Each 2006 1/2 oz Australian Silver Lunar Dog Coin comes in its own acrylic capsule. This coin was the 11th animal in the Zodiac cycle, but because the Perth Mint delayed the release of silver coins in Lunar Series I, it is the eighth coin among the silver issues.

The Dog represents the eleventh animal in the 12-year Chinese zodiac. According to Chinese astrology, the Dog year is considered a year of stability, security, and responsibility. It is believed to be a favorable time for consolidating relationships, building solid foundations, and taking care of family matters.

The obverse side of the 2006 Australian Silver Lunar Dog features Queen Elizabeth II. This portrait is the fourth-generation effigy of the Queen, designed in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley. It first appeared on Royal Mint coins and was used on Perth Mint coins from 1998 to 2018/2019.

On the reverse side, you will find a German shepherd. Originally bred for herding and guarding sheep in Germany, German Shepherds are now one of the most popular and versatile dog breeds. They excel in roles such as police work, search and rescue, assisting people with disabilities, and even acting in films and TV shows.
