The Mexican Libertad Coin Series first debuted at the Mexican Mint in 1981. Originally issued in gold, this series connects directly to the historic 1921 Centenario gold coin, which inspired the series’ creation. Over the years, the series has expanded and become one of the most recognized modern coin collections. Now, 2012 1 Kilo Mexican Silver Libertad Coins are available at BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
Each 2012 1 Kilo Mexican Silver Libertad Coin comes in a protective plastic capsule for safekeeping. The 1 Kilo Silver Libertad is the largest coin in the Silver Libertad Series, with smaller weights such as the 1/20 oz coin also available. The 1 Kilo size was first introduced in 2008, and this particular release is the fourth in the series.
Historically, the 1 Kilo Mexican Silver Libertads have had the lowest mintages in the series, with the 2011 release reaching the highest mintage of 6,000 coins. After the 2012 release, the 1 Kilo size was discontinued in 2013 and 2014, making this coin a rare piece from the series.
The obverse of the 2012 Mexican Silver Libertad displays the national coat of arms. The modern coat of arms is at the center, surrounded by 10 historic versions of the seal. These historic seals date back to the Codex Mendoza created by the Aztecs in 1524, adding a rich historical layer to the design.
On the reverse side, you’ll find the iconic image of Winged Victory, depicted just as it stands atop the Mexican Independence Victory Column in Mexico City. The design is set against a stunning background of the volcanic peaks of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl, highlighting the natural beauty of the region.
