About the Everglades National Park silver coin

Each obverse of the coins in America the Beautiful series features the portrait of George Washington by John Flanagan, used on the quarter since 1932.

The fantastic bird population in the Everglades inspired artist Joel Iskowitz to create the reverse design of the Silver 5-oz ATB 2014 Everglades. The coin's reverse features an anhinga with outstretched wings on a willow tree with a roseate spoonbill visible in the mid-ground. As part of America the Beautiful, the design commemorates Florida's commitment to the conservation of the Everglades.

About Everglades National Park

This year's issue of the ongoing "America the Beautiful" series by the U.S. Mint honors Everglade National Park. Everglades, located in Florida, has been called a river of grass flowing imperceptibly from the hinterland into the sea.' The park serves to protect a unique ecosystem and landscape. A variety of species has made the park their home and sanctuary, including many birds and reptiles, and for species such as the manatee, the American crocodile, and the Florida panther.

Everglades National Park of Florida is the largest subtropical wilderness in the United States. The park is a protected area and a World Heritage site rather than a geological marvel. This delicate ecosystem that the Everglades protects was once in danger of extinction by the early 1900s as people saw the area as valuable farmland. There is a vast diversity of flora and fauna in different ecosystems that make this area home, and it was decided that they needed to be protected.

With the help of several people, organizations, and legislation like the Cartagena Treaty, the park, and the park's diverse flora and fauna are now protected. The Silver 5-oz ATB 2014 Everglades is an ongoing effort to preserve and commemorate Everglades National Park. The coin has a nominal value of 25 cents. With its emblematic design and 0.999 fine silver content, Silver 5-oz ATB 2014 Everglades is highly sought after by collectors and investors.
