About the Cumberland Island 5 oz silver bullion coin
It’s the 44th coin in the overall silver coin series, and it’s the fourth coin released in the 2018 ATB series. The America the Beautiful silver bullion coins is a series of silver bullion coins that contain 5 troy ounces of 99.9% pure silver. Each of them has a face value of a quarter dollar, as stated on the coin.
The obverse features the left-profile portrait of one of the founding fathers, and the first elected United States President, George Washington. It was designed by John Flanagan in 1932 and introduced by Congress as a replacement to the Standing Liberty Quarter. This side of the coin also includes the inscriptions of the U.S. motto “In God We Trust” along with the founding ideal of the country, “Liberty."
The reverse side of the Silver 5-oz ATB 2018 Cumberland Island National Seashore Silver coin features an image of a migratory bird perched on a branch in front of the barrier island. It represents just some of the beautiful sights visible in the national park.
The edge of the coin contains the classic inscriptions of a U.S. quarter coin including the name of the featured park, the name of the state, year of issue, and the motto “E Pluribus Unum."
About Cumberland Island National Seashore
Cumberland Island is the largest of the Sea Islands located at the southeastern tip of Georgia along the Atlantic Ocean coastline. It’s home to a variety of coastal flora and native and non-native fauna. It stretches over an area of 36,415 acres. The island was declared a National Park and a National Seashore by Congress on October 23, 1972.
The Cumberland Island National Seashore preserves most of Cumberland Island. The seashore features beaches and dunes, marshes, and freshwater lakes. A diverse range of coastal flora and fauna make their homes there. It’s also the most biodiverse of Georgia’s barrier islands.
