The Silver 5-oz ATB 2018 Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Silver Coin represents the state of Michigan. It celebrates the state and its beautiful landscape of Lake Superior in the Upper Peninsula.

About the 5 oz silver Pictured Rocks coin

This is the 1st release of 2018’s America the Beautiful silver coin collection, and the 41st coin overall. It’s made out of 5 ounces of 99.9% pure silver and given a face value of $0.25.

The obverse side of the coin features the classic representation of President George Washington. The historic portrait was designed by John Flanagan and introduced by Congress in 1932 as a replacement to the Standing Liberty Quarter’s design. The design also includes the inscriptions of the historic ideal of Liberty which the United States was founded upon. It also includes the official motto of the USA “In God We Trust” which was introduced by Congress in 1956.

The reverse side of the coin features an image of the breath-taking landscape of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. We can also see the name of the state and featured park, along with the original motto inscribed in Latin “E pluribus unum” based on the design of the Great Seal of the United States.

About Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore

Michigan is a U.S. state in the Great Lakes and Midwestern regions. It’s bordered by four of the five Great Lakes, plus Lake Saint Clair which makes it the longest freshwater coastline political subdivision in the world. Also, it has 64,980 inland lakes and ponds. The high amount of freshwater bodies of water and its geographical features made it a highly attractive settling point for Native Americans, and the European settlers that came later. The state is also home to several National Parks and protected areas. One of which is Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is a U.S. National Lakeshore located on the shore of Lake Superior in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The park covers an area of 73,236 acres. Pictured Rocks got its name from the 15 miles of colorful sandstone cliffs that reach up to 200 feet above water level. It’s filled with shallow caves, arches, and formations resembling castle turrets and human profiles which act as great tourist attractions. It’s the first National Lakeshore in the United States, and it was declared by Congress in 1966.
