Once in a while, we get a new coin in stock that makes us all gather around and go, “Ooooh.” Perth Mint’s 2022 Year of the Tiger antiqued silver coin made us say, “Wow.”

Just take a look at the pictures above (and trust me, they DO NOT do it justice). This is a work of unparalleled numismatic art from the world-famous Perth Mint. Before you even read on, you should know this is an incredibly limited mintage of only 1,888 pieces.

This coin has been individually “antiqued” by hand to give a unique finish conveying the surface abrasions of an ancient artifact. As a result of this treatment, the appearance of each coin in the mintage may vary.

2022 Year of the Tiger antiqued silver coin's design

The coin portrays a tiger and its cub in an intricately composed landscape featuring a river flowing through a rocky terrain with bamboo, a plant symbolic of honour, virtue, and modesty. The antiqued finish adds distinctive high-contrast qualities to the design, again, making this unique coin look like an ancient artifact just unearthed by an enterprising archaeologist. Perth Mint's designer Jennifer McKenna has crafted a story in miniature here: A tiger parent, alert for danger, poised as if just noticing you, the viewer. Behind the parent a cub playfully ambles through the ferns that sprout along the floor of the bamboo glade, blissfully unaware of its parent's alertness. In many ways this is a story about parenting, about being ever-watchful so your own cubs can continue to play and retain their innocence of the dangers lurking in the shadows of the bamboo forest.

The obverse features Jody Clark's portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, along with the coin's weight, purity, year of mintage and $2 face value. Note that the obverse has been antiqued by hand as well, presenting a much more interesting take on the Queen than we usually see!

Classic display case

Accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity, the coin comes in a classic display case with a clear lid and an illustrated shipper. When aligned with the other shippers from the series, the illustration forms a diorama depicting all 12 animals in the order they completed The Great Race, a traditional Chinese story about the creation of the lunar calendar.

This is an absolutely unique coin that will be the envy of all who see its place of pride in your collection.

If nobody is available at the delivery address to sign and accept delivery, the package will be returned to us.

Where do you ship orders from?
All orders will ship from our warehouse in Los Angeles, California. We conceal the return address on all packages so as to not hint at the contents of the package.

If you have taken possession of a damaged or tampered package, please save all packaging and contact call us at (800) 729-3202 during normal business hours of 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. (PT) Monday – Friday within 48 hours for further instructions. Failure to notify us of damage or tampering within 48 hours from signature or delivery date may impact our ability to cover your claim.

What happens if my order is lost in transit?
We see very few delivery issues with our carriers, but sometimes delays do occur. In those situations, we appreciate your patience to wait a little longer for your package (at least 7 business days) before contacting us. Should the package not arrive, an investigation of the shipment is required before any order is reshipped or refunded. We may ask you to file a police report if it appears loss is due to theft or tampering. Your assistance speeds up the investigation and the sooner we complete it, the sooner we can resolve the missing order.
