The Battle of San Jacinto had immediate and long-lasting effects. It secured Texas’s independence, leading to the establishment of the Republic of Texas. This independent nation would exist for nearly a decade before joining the United States in 1845. The battle also marked a significant territorial loss for Mexico, as Texas encompassed a large area that would later become part of the American Southwest.
